We are sad to hear about the closing of Y-Me, they provided valuable resources to women with breast cancer, especially through their support hotline.
A Chicago-based national breast cancer support group known for its 24-hour hotline and Mother’s Day fundraising race abruptly shut its doors last week.
The board of Y-Me made the decision to shutter the 32-year-old organization, according to Margaret Harte, who founded the annual Mother’s Day Race Against Breast Cancer in 1992.
“There were many of us who thought it was premature,” Harte said of the closing.
Harte held out hope that once Y-Me gets out of some onerous overhead costs like expensive property leases, it can reconstitute.
